It’s alive, it’s alive…IT’S ALIVE!!!

I was eating lunch with a friend the other day and she asked if I had a website. I responded with the usual, “yes, probably a few too many,” hoping to skim the surface and avoid the inevitable hours long conversation, given my afternoon conference call that was scheduled in 15 minutes. She obviously knew I was referring to my company’s websites, and clarified, “no, Michael, do you have a website?” “Uh, you know,” I responded, “I don’t.”

You see, I’ve let myself believe I’ve been too busy with my companies the past three and a half years to build my own website. It’s been one of those things I’ve wanted to do, but have always found an excuse not to do, until now.

I’ve found that whenever jumping in on a new project up to this point, especially ones with a high degree of permanence (like things have on the web), I’ve aimed a bit too high for the first deliverable. I’ve wanted to deliver perfection at the cost of timeliness. While that’s okay if time doesn’t mean anything to you, it’s meaning a lot more to me as the years pass. So today marks the beginning a different approach, one that is focused on faster releases, feedback loops, and constant improvement. While what I produce won’t be perfect (actually far from it), it will be timely and provide a baseline from which it can improve.

So with that said, I offer up my disclaimer that this website is a work in progress. It’s not perfect. Some posts might “go live” too early and look a bit mangled (both in style and message) like Dr. Frankenstein’s creation above. I’ll do my best to get back around to these posts and clean them up as time permits. You’re more than welcome to comment on them, or email me, with your suggestions, approval, or dissent. The main thing is that there’s a start, this website has got some life, and now I can say “yes, I do have a website!” Enjoy.
